A beautiful ski mountain, accessible from either Sustenpass or Göschenen.
Switzerland - Central
Time to climb
5 - 6 hours
From the Göschenen side, drive from Goeschenen as far up the road as possible to Abfrutt. From here follow the tracks to Salbithütte (2150m) where an overnight stop is possible.
If coming from Sustenpass, drive up to the chapel in Meien and park here.
Both routes have similar climb, and difficulty, although it is possible to break the ascent from Göeschen with an overnight stop at the hut (not open in winter but has a winter room). On the Göeschenen side, from the Salbithütte continue upwards through the cliffs to the top. Crampons necessary to get through the (45 degrees) steep section. On the Sustenpass side, from the chapel in Meien descend the road a few hundred metres until it is possible to descend to the River Reuss and a small bridge. From here climb easily upwards (30 mins) until the start of the steep narrow section at Kartigel. Climb this with many Spitzkehren until the Frühstuckplatz is reached with fine views back to Sustenpass. Now more easily until the final steep but wide Firn, that leads to the steep rock section below the summit. Leave the skis here and climb up and left through the rocks to the summit ridge which can be followed to the top.
